Summary in the original language of the document
Thermophilic compost, also known as hot rotting compost or windrow compost, is the most common compost, which is produced in medium to large quantities worldwide. Thermophilic compost has to be actively managed mostly by turning the material to extend the temperature over all parts of the compost heap. It does reach 65°C or greater, which ensures weed seeds as well as plant and human pathogens are killed or deactivated.
This factsheet provides an overview of what to consider in production of thermophilic compost including, regulation and location, resources and mixtures, technology, quality control and more.
This tool is relevant for any practitioner considering producing their own thermophilic compost, and is complimented by the corresponding video.
