Plant Nutrient Team
Crop nutrition and liming are studied by the team, the main objective being sufficient nutrient supply for profitable and sustainable production with minimum environmental loading. Besides optimized fertilization, utilisation of both soil nutrient reserves and applied fertilizers is enhanced by improved fertilization methods and soil management.
A sufficient supply of the agroecologically critical nutrient phosphorus can be assured by starter fertilization. In order to decrease surface runoff methods avoiding fertilizer broadcasting on leys have been developed. More reliable analyses on the availability of soil potassium reserves has led to a decrease in useless fertilization and improves the mineral composition of grass ley forage.
The team is headed by Dr Into Saarela.
