Nitrogen - Carbon Team
The team is does research on nitrogen and carbon cycling in soil-plant systems. The processes of the nitrogen and carbon cycle are influenced to large extent by biological processes in soil. The team is also investigating soil biodiversity, the use of different organic and mineral fertilizers for field and vegetable crops, nitrogen balances and recoveries using N-15 techniques, leaching and gaseous emissions of nitrogen as well as the prediction of optimal nitrogen fertilizer applications.
Studies of the emissions and sinks of greenhouse gases; nitrous oxide, methane and carbon dioxide from agricultural soils and carbon storage in soils are part of the teams work too.
The team is headed by Professor Martti Esala.
