Environmental management
Environmental management is an interdisciplinary field of research.
It focuses on the environmental and social relations of agriculture
and rural enterprises aiming for the sustainable use of natural resources.
The research produces environmental information on food production
for decision-making and eco-design. Environmental applications of
geoinformatics are utilized in the regional agro-ecological research.
The social and cultural conditions of rural environment are explored
using qualitative methods.
Recent research topics include life cycles of food, material flows
in agriculture, environmental load of agriculture at watershed scale,
eco-design of rural products, indicators for agriculture and rural
development, social capital in rural communities, environmental
education, landscape and biodiversity perceptions and ecological
entrepreneurship.
Environmental management is headed by Professor Sirpa
Kurppa.
