Summary

European researchers developed a science‑based catalogue of greenhouse‑gas mitigation options for crop and livestock farms, addressing the challenge that existing evidence is hard for farmers and advisors to access and apply. From an initial list of 63 measures, fewer than 50 met strict criteria for evidence quality, technical readiness, and demonstrated emission‑reduction potential, with notable gaps in Life Cycle Assessment studies—especially for sheep and pigs. While many options show medium to strong mitigation potential, some may increase emissions depending on farm context, making the catalogue a tool to help farmers choose effective practices and avoid unintended outcomes.
