Summary

Camelina (Camelina sativa) is an oilseed crop known for its high oil content and desirable fattyacid profile. When incorporated into intercropping systems, it’s recorded that camelina enhances both crop diversity and nutritional characteristics of food and feed products. Camelina intercropping with pulses, highlighting its impact on seed quality, oil composition, and land efficiency (Schillaci and Jones, 2023).
The fatty acid composition varied between autumn and spring sowing dates. Winter sowing led to an increase in linolenic acid (C18:3n6), while oleic acid (C18:2n9c) and linoleic acid (C18:2n6c) were positively influenced by spring sowing. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential plant-based omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, holds significant nutraceutical potential and serves as a vital component of human diets.
Camelina’s Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) and Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) values ranged from 31.20% to 36.70% and 37.75% to 45.26%, respectively, indicating its strong potential as a valuable feed source. Furthermore, the companion MAPs exhibited promising attributes for utilization in animal feed, highlighting the multifunctional benefits of intercropping systems in enhancing both agricultural productivity and sustainability.
The quality parameters of the crops are highly related to the agronomic packages performed in their production and their post-harvest applications.
