Summary
Študija je ocenila dobrobit krškopoljskih prašičev, vzrejenih v treh ekoloških sistemih – v hlevu, na prostem ter na prostem z ovcami – s pomočjo določanja koncentracije kortizola v dlaki in ocenjevanja pogojev reje. Vzorce dlake so sezonsko odvzeli 45 prašičem, kortizol pa analizirali z metodo ELISA. Rezultati so pokazali nekoliko višje vrednosti kortizola pri prašičih na prostem, verjetno zaradi večje izpostavljenosti okoljskim dejavnikom, vendar razlike niso bile statistično značilne. Tudi starost je vplivala na višje vrednosti, spol pa ne. Dobrobit je bila v vseh skupinah visoka, le prašiči na prostem so poleti utrpeli sončne opekline. Ugotovili so, da lahko dobro zasnovana hlevska reja s povečano talno površino in uporabo slame doseže enako ali boljšo raven dobrobiti kot reja na prostem. Rezultati kažejo, da višja raven kortizola ni nujno pokazatelj slabše dobrobiti. Nadaljnje raziskave naj vključujejo tudi primerjavo z intenzivno rejo.
Summary translation
The study examined the welfare of Krškopolje pigs raised in three organic farming systems—indoor, outdoor, and outdoor with sheep—by measuring cortisol levels in hair and evaluating welfare conditions. Hair samples were collected seasonally from 45 pigs, and cortisol was analyzed using ELISA. Results showed slightly higher cortisol levels in pigs kept outdoors, possibly due to environmental variability. Older pigs also had higher cortisol, but none of the differences were statistically significant. Welfare assessments indicated high welfare across all groups, though outdoor pigs experienced sunburn in summer. The study suggests that indoor systems with ample space and straw bedding can offer welfare comparable to, or even better than, outdoor systems. While cortisol levels may reflect environmental stressors, they do not necessarily indicate lower animal welfare. Future research should compare these findings with pigs raised in intensive farming systems.
