The administration of 150 g of tannin extract per day to Modicana cows during the grazing season does not seem to affect rumen biohydrogenation and, consequently, the fatty acids profile of milk.
The composition of the milk also did not change. The lack of effects shows that there are still no certainties on the use of tannins in the feeding of ruminants. The complexity and variability of the molecules prevent any generalization of their effects, especially when the controlled system (i.e., in vitro) is abandoned. In animals, there are many factors that affect the metabolism and quality of the final product, especially in an extensive farming system.
