Summary

Summary translation

The project is based on two crucial problems in organic trout farming: 1) Parasites, i.e. skin/gill infections, which is lethal for fry/small fish; 2) Bacterial infections - “Red Spot disease”, which causes high downgrading/rejection of fish at slaughter, which both are elucidated in connection to 3) Methods to improve welfare and water quality.
The project uses a holistic approach addressing the interactions between the Fish - Pathogenes – Farming environment and water quality.
Specifically focus is on effect of 1) Shelter on farming environment, 2) Herb extracts/bacterial surfactant against gill/skin parasites, 3) Induced immunity against ”Red Spot Disease” and 4) Reduction of load with organic matter (improve water quality).
The project contributes to strenthening organic fish farming as well as to advisory and teaching.
The project is decidedly a collaboration project involving trout farmers, feed producer, Danish Aquaculture Organisation, processing and marketing companies, researchers and consultants.
