Summary

The dataset on certified organic agriculture across the globe as of end 2021 reveals remarkable trends: in 2021, almost 77 million ha of agricultural land, accounting for 1.6% of the total farmland, were under organic management. Impressively, the number of organic producers soared to 3.7 million. In tandem, the global organic food market surged to a value of nearly €125 billion.
The data, gathered from 191 countries, showcase an unceasing upward trajectory in organic agriculture. Organic farmland, the number of organic producers, as well as retail sales and exports, all reached all-time highs.
These insights stem from the annual survey on global organic agriculture, which has been carried out since 1999. This survey engages a diverse array of data sources, including contributions from the private sector, government agencies, esteemed research institutions, and certified organic entities.
