Summary

Livestock’s environmental impacts cannot be fully understood through traditional eco‑efficiency metrics alone, as these overlook animals’ roles in nutrient cycling, biomass upcycling, and regional ecosystem limits. The Geo‑SOL model provides a spatially explicit, territorial approach that links livestock production to local carrying capacity and circularity, offering a more systemic assessment of sustainability across different future livestock scenarios.
