Summary

This report presents energy, and economic performance of camelina-based intercropping and sole cropping systems in Poland, Italy, and Turkey. The results show that economic outcomes strongly depend on the crop species, country, and farming practices. The highest energy inputs were recorded for the cultivation of spelt and camelina in Poland, while the lowest were observed in Turkey. Intercropping systems generally required higher energy inputs than sole cropping. Life cycle costing analysis showed that the highest cultivation costs were found in intercropping systems in Poland and Italy, especially for camelina with spelt or chickpea. The lowest costs occurred in Turkey, mainly for sole camelina and fenugreek. Sales income was highest for sole chickpea in Italy, while the lowest was recorded for sole camelina in Turkey. Subsidies significantly increased net income in sole cropping systems, but not in intercropping. The most profitable systems were sole chickpea in Italy and sole camelina in Poland, while sole spelt in Poland was unprofitable.
