Für den ökologischen Landbau ist die Herbstaussaat von Sommergerste interessant, Da diese im Herbst später gesät wird, ist eine mechanische Unkrautbekämpfung nicht immer möglich. Deshalb wurde die Eignung einer Untersaat auf die Anbaueigenschaften und den Ertrag geprüft.
