Summary in the original language of the document
The member states of the European Union are important target markets for organic exports from Third Countries. For developing countries, exporting organic products to the EU offers opportunities to generate additional added value and contribute to sustainable development. At the same time, third-country imports of organic goods sometimes are related to considerable risks. This is due to differing socio-economic conditions, a lack of advisory structures in third countries, sometimes long and complex transport chains and insufficiently risk-orientated quality assurance and control systems.
The presentation highlights how to recognise risks in international organic supply chains and how to improve the integrity of third-country organic imports to the EU market.
