Summary in the original language of the document

In light of the new Organic Action Plan for the EU, which recognises the importance of research and innovation for organic, knowledge exchange on organic farming, and building organic agricultural knowledge and innovation systems (AKIS), TP Organics’ study, based on mapping and screening existing cases in Europe, presents seven organic living labs and five organic lighthouse farms (one of them counting as both). The selected initiatives demonstrate how innovative the organic sector is in improving organic practices and inspiring the transformation of the wider agri-food system.

What problem does the tool address?:Living labs and lighthouses are high on the agenda of the European Commission as these initiatives show a high potential to integrate research and innovation processes in real-life communities and settings, accelerating the uptake and upscaling of solutions on the ground. Yet, there is still little evidence of how innovative the organic sector already is in this regard, and its potential risks are being overlooked rather than leveraged.
