Summary in the original language of the document

Four main monitoring methods have been selected and are presented here: visual observation, beating, cardboards, sentinel preys. Each method targets different groups of arthropods. It is interesting to match up the use of a method with the presence of the targeted groups and with the phenological stages during which fruit trees are particularly threatened by pests.

Summary translation

EPrint Type:Practice tool
Teaser:Booklet with simplified methods that fit to your organic orchard.
What problem does the tool address?:Organic tree fruit quality and yield are often reduced (10 - >80%) because of insect and pest damage. No effective control measures exist for many of these pests. This increases economic risk and can reduce growers’ motivation to develop organic production. At the same time, there is a large potential for organic apple production as consumers become increasingly interested in organic food. Monitoring functional biodiversity is an important step in the successful management of organic orchards.
What solution does the tool offer?:This booklet is designed to help farmers in using simple methods to assess functional biodiversity in their orchards.
