The impact of four different undersowing treatments (grass-clover leys, lucerne, red clover and a mixture of white clover and black medic) in triticale in spring on yield and quality of this cereal were examined in field experiments over two years at two sites in Bavaria. Despite different competition ability, the treatments showed no significant differences in yield and quality of triticale. Hence, competition ability for undersowing in spring in winter cereals seem to be negligible. Triticale yielded 1.7 percent lower with than without undersowing. However, this little difference does not lead to a revaluation due to enhanced effect of the legume undersowing on the following crop.
