Summary in the original language of the document
This study has looked at the impacts of the development programme EPOPA on peasants’ livelihoods in the Primary Society Kachwezi in Kagera, Tanzania. The programme has started five years ago with the aim of giving “African smallholder farmers improved standards of living through developing the exports of organic products from Africa. The rural communi-ties, thus the farmers, get a premium price for their crop, they get better prices, closer rela-tionships with the buyers and cash in hand”. Summarising the effects of EPOPA on farmers’ livelihoods one can see that EPOPA has indeed made a difference, but there is room for improvement on many issues.
