Summary
Documented sustainable pig production is a requirement for the economic result of organic pig production in Denmark, as consumers are only willing to pay the premium price for organic pork meat, if they can see the benefits for environment, animal welfare, climate and social wellbeing.
For the economical results of an organic pig farm, the impact of using recycled products as replacement for roughage feed for sows is very limited. The possibility to use more roughage or recycled waste to substitute concentrates, offers better perspectives, but is very much dependent of the quality of the recycled product.
