Summary
The tool offers a video in which a researcher explains the advantages of fodder trees for dairy goats and a farmer talks about his experiences with the plantation. Images of the plantation in early stage. It is targeted ar experienced farmers and advisors and is specific for organic farming, but can also be interesting for other dairy farmers. The suggested type of plantation is specific to a location (Flanders), but ideas and concepts are broader.
Summary translation

Teaser: | Why and how to integrate fodder trees and shrubs in the outside area of organic dairy goats in order to optimise animal health, well-being and natural behaviour. |
What problem does the tool address?: | Raising organic dairy goats implies that the animals need an outdoor area. Animals should be allowed to show animal-specific behaviour. Goats aren’t grazers, but they are browsers, so their outdoor area should be adjusted to that. On the other hand, goats suffer from gastrointestinal worms and heat stress when staying outside. Organic ruminants can only take up trace elements (minerals) from their feed, and they cannot be supplied preventively. |
What solution does the tool offer?: | Expertise and practical examples of why and how to functionally integrate (fodder) trees and shrubs in the outdoor system. |
