Summary in the original language of the document

Hair cortisol is developing as an indicator of chronic stress because it is a simple and non-invasive method. We recommend the last third of the tail for sample collection in cattle, and then contact an accredited laboratory to do the extraction of cortisol and analyses. In our experiment we found a significant effect of disease on cortisol level of calves at 21 and 56 days after birth. High and increasing cortisol level in young calves in the herd may initiate precautions.
