Summary
Les professionnels bretons de la filière « Fruits et Légumes biologiques » d’IBB (Inter Bio Bretagne1) et en partenariat avec l'INRA (GAP), ont initié en 2001 un travail de sélection de choux pour l'Agriculture Biologique à partir d'un programme d’évaluation de ressources génétiques issues de banques de gènes françaises (INRA) et européennes, sur la PAIS (Plateforme Agrobiologique d’IBB à Suscinio). Réalisé dans un premier temps dans le cadre d’un programme INRA-CIAB, le travail d’évaluation par les professionnels avec l’appui de la PAIS et de la recherche a permis d’identifier les meilleures populations en termes de qualité et d'adaptation au milieu. Un programme de sélection participative s’est ainsi naturellement mis en place et a permis le développement d’une dizaine de populations de choux. Au delà du programme CIAB, le travail de sélection de la PAIS s’est ensuite diversifié à la demande des professionnels afin de répondre à leurs besoins en variétés adaptées à la production biologique et au marché pour d’autres espèces potagères. La dynamique professionnelle aboutit aujourd’hui au développement de quelques variétés de légumes intéressantes pour la filière. Il reste cependant à optimiser les schémas de sélection et concevoir un espace réglementaire cohérent pour la sélection participative et l'AB.
Summary translation
In partnership with INRA, professionals from the organic vegetable sector in Brittany conducted a breeding programme for organically-farmed cabbage based on an evaluation programme of genetic resources collected from French (INRA) and European gene banks at the PAIS (Agro-biological platform of the Interprofessional Association for Organic Farming in Brittany), located in Suscinio. Between 2001 and 2003, the evaluation focused on quality criteria for commercial products and the suitability of varieties to the organic market, as well as on their adaptation to the environment. About 400 populations of cauliflower have thus been evaluated at the PAIS and/or by professionals in the sector in Brittany in order to evaluate their adaptation to organic production under different soil conditions and their suitability to various marketing channels. Ten of them were selected. Focused at first on cabbage, the programme was extended at the request of professionals and led to the breeding of several other species (tomato, carrot, lettuce, spinach, etc.). Breeding programs must now be optimized in order to satisfy consumer quality and adaptability requirements, and to design a coherent regulatory framework for participatory plant breeding and organic farming.
