Summary
Large volumes of residual materials are available from captured fish (cod, saithe and othe "white fish") in Norway.120 000 tons of material (backbones, heads etc) per year are not utilised. With 30% dry matter and 105 of DM as P, this may comprise about 3900 tons of P. Such an amount equals 25% of the total domestic application of P annually, in animal manure and mineral fertilisers. Fishbone material applied as fertiliser has immediate positive effect on plant growth, and significant effect on extractable soil P.
