Summary
Standards and regulations frame the practice of organic agriculture, and hence are also highly relevant for scientific research.
This document aims to define the rules to be observed by farmers and growers practising organic (biological) agriculture and marketing their crops and livestock products as the produce of organic (biological)Agriculture. It goes without saying that each national organization is free to complete these regulations by addding rules of its own, provided that such additions are not opposed in principle to those given below. The standards include principle aims of organic agriculture, regulations for Crop Production; Animal husbandry; Storage, conservation and Processing; and a completing section on Conditions in which these standards apply which describes conversion, labelling and control. The final chapter gives guidelines for Revision of the standards. Three appendixes list approved inputs of manures and fertilisers, inputs for pest and disease management and inputs for livestock management and feeding.
