Summary

The annual survey on organic agriculture worldwide shows that a wide range of data on the organic sector is available, but a number of challenges need to be tackled in
order to increase data availability, quality, and comparability. These challenges include lack and incompleteness of data, classification issues, non-harmonised definitions and lack of consistency checks. In order to improve the situation a number of recommendations are presented including the expansion of data collection
activities, the improvement and harmonisation of statistical processes, the implementation of quality checks, and the strengthening of the institutional framework for data collection.
