Summary
Le bien-être animal constitue un des piliers de l’agriculture biologique. Cette priorité est garantie par l’application du cahier des charges qui l’intègre à l’ensemble des pratiques d’élevage et de manipulations des animaux.
Aujourd’hui, le bien-être animal dépasse largement la sphère de l’agriculture biologique. Des éleveurs et consommateurs s’en sont emparés et sont demandeurs de conseils et garanties pour l’inclure à tous les échelons de la chaîne de production, transport et abattage. La conception de l’animal machine a cédé la place à celle de l’animal sujet. Cette évolution morale est à mettre en regard des progrès scientifiques en matière de connaissance des fondements physiologiques de la douleur ou de la conscience chez l'animal.
Ce document a pour objectif de faire l’état de la veille scientifique en matière de bien-être animal en élevage porcin biologique. Il vient s’aligner derrière un premier livret sur l’alimentation porcine, tous deux issus d’un socle de connaissance plus large sur l’élevage de porc en agriculture biologique.

Animal welfare is one of the fundamental of organic farming. This priority is guaranteed by the application of the specifications, which integrate it into all animal husbandry and handling practices.
Today, animal welfare goes far beyond organic farming. Farmers and consumers have grabbed it and are seeking advice and guarantees to include it at all levels of the production, transport and slaughter chain. The design of the 'machine animal' has given way to that of the 'subject animal'. This moral evolution must be considered in the context of scientific progress in terms of knowledge of the physiological basis of pain or consciousness in animals.
The purpose of this document is to review the scientific monitoring of animal welfare in organic pig farming. It comes after a booklet on pig feed, both from a broader knowledge base on organic pig farming.
