        abstract = {Gegenstand des geplanten deutschen Teilprojektes ist es (1) in Zusammenarbeit mit den europ{\"a}ischen Partnern animal-health-and-welfare-plans (AHW plans) f{\"u}r die {\"o}kologische Milchviehhaltung zu entwickeln, basierend auf den im bestehenden Projekt (03 OE 406) gesammelten Erfahrungen, (2) schon bestehende Tiergesundheitspl{\"a}ne mit Parametern des Wohlbefindens zu vervollst{\"a}ndigen sowie anschlie{\ss}end eine Effektivit{\"a}tskontrolle dieser AHW-plans auf 20 repr{\"a}sentativen Praxisbetrieben in Deutschland durchzuf{\"u}hren und (3) regionale "stable schools" als innovatives Kommunikationsmittel zum Thema Tiergesundheit und Tiergerechtheit zu initiieren. Hierf{\"u}r werden Indikatoren der Tiergesundheit (unter Ber{\"u}cksichtigung der Erkrankungs-komplexe Mastitis, Lahmheiten, Stoffwechselst{\"o}rungen, Fruchtbarkeits-probleme, K{\"a}lber-krankheiten), zugeh{\"o}rige Zielgr{\"o}{\ss}en sowie Erhebungsprotokolle und bereits im Projekt 03 OE 406 gesammelte Erfahrungen bez{\"u}glich der Entwicklung und Implementierung von Tiergesundheitspl{\"a}nen den europ{\"a}ischen Partnern zur Verf{\"u}gung gestellt. Zwanzig {\"o}kolo-gisch wirtschaftende Milchviehbetriebe werden zweimal besucht, um Indikatoren der Tier-gesundheit und des Wohlbefindens zu erheben. Eine Effektivit{\"a}tskontrolle der bereits vor Projektbeginn implementierten Tiergesundheitspl{\"a}ne sowie eine Erg{\"a}nzung um Aspekte der Tiergerechtheit erfolgt beim ersten Betriebsbesuch. Dar{\"u}ber hinaus werden betriebsindividuelle AHW-plans implementiert und diese beim zweiten Besuch - ca. 6 Monate sp{\"a}ter - auf ihre Effektivit{\"a}t hin {\"u}berpr{\"u}ft. Mit dem Ziel der einzelbetrieblichen Optimierung von Tiergesundheit und -gerechtheit zur Minimierung des Tierarzneimitteleinsatzes werden drei regionale Impulsworkshops zu AHW-plans durchgef{\"u}hrt. Diese "stable schools" werden von ProjektmitarbeiterInnen moderiert und dienen nach d{\"a}nischem Vorbild dem regen fachlichen Austausch von Landwirt zu Landwirt unter Ber{\"u}cksichtigung gewisser Kommunikationsregeln.

        abstract = {Livestock is important in many organic farming systems, and it is an explicit goal to ensure high levels of animal health and welfare (AHW) through good management. This will lead to reduced medicine use and better quality of animal products. In two EU network projects NAHWOA \& SAFO it was concluded that this is not guaranteed merely by following organic standards. Both networks recommended implementation of individual animal health plans to stimulate organic farmers to improve AHW. These plans should include a systematic evaluation of AHW and be implemented through dialogue with each farmer in order to identify goals and plan improvements. 15 research institutions in 8 European countries are involved in the proposed project with the main objective to minimise medicine use in organic dairy herds through active and well planned AHW promotion and disease prevention. The project consists of 5 work packages, 4 of which comprise research activities building on current research projects, new applications across borders, exchange of knowledge, results and conclusions between participating countries, and adopting them to widely different contexts. International and national workshops facilitate this exchange. Focus areas are animal health planning, AHW assessment using animal based parameters and development of advisory systems and farmer groups. Epidemiological analyses of the effect on AHW from reduced medicine use and herd improvements are planned in all participating countries.},
