Summary
Svaveldepositionen och svavelinnehållet i gödselmedel har minskat markant. En konsekvens är att svavelbrist uppkommer. Huvudfråga: Hur mycket organiskt svavel kan omvandlas i marken till växttillgängligt sulfat genom mikroorganismernas aktivitet, och kan organiskt svavel i kreatursgödsel också bidra till grödornas svavelförsörjning? Delfrågor:
1. Hur är sulfatbildningen via mikroorganismerna kopplad till svavlets kemiska och fysiska bindningsformer?
2. Hur mycket sulfat kan raps (stort svavelbehov) och korn (måttligt svavelbehov) erhålla från kreatursgödsel jämfört med direkt sulfattillförsel från gips (kalciumsulfat)?
3. Vilka är de långsiktiga effekterna av kreatursgödsel på grödornas svaveltillgång?
Summary translation
Sulphur availability to crops has declined during the last 10-15 years over large areas of Europe, due to declines in sulphur deposition and sulphur content of mineral fertilizers. This is a problem both in conventional and organic farming. In this project, the role of farmyard manure and soil organic matter in sulphur turnover, including interactions between sulphur and nitrogen, will be addressed. Research tasks:
1. The use of different sulphur fractions in soil forpredictiorJ. of net sulphur mineralization. Physically protected and unprotected organic sulphur will be distinguished as well as sulphur fractions obtained in a sequential fractionation. Sulphur mineralization will be assayed by an open incubation technique.
2. Mass balances will be calculated in pot experiments to estimate the importance of sulphur mineralization versus SO42- additions in mineral fertilizer for the S nutrition of barley and oilseed rape.
3. Soil fertility trials will be screened with respect to long-term effects of farmyard manure applications on net sulphur mineralization. The project will form the basis of a PhD thesis.
