Enkelte arter meitemark er helt rå til å spise planterester. Andre liker eller best å gnafse jord. Stor meitemark fjerner over 90 % av løvet på bakken innen neste vår. For å få flere meitemark i jorda, er det bra med husdyrgjødsel og flerårig kløver.

Some species of earthworms are very eager to eat plant litter. Others like to crunch soil. These "night crawlers" make over 90% of the litter on the surface disappear until the next spring. To get more earthworms in your soil, apply animal manure and perennial clover leys.
