Summary

Experimental farm resource to evaluate complete systems. 86 hectare organic dairy farm converted in 1992-94 period. Facilities currently evaluating two contrasting systems of milk production including changes in nutrient budgets, efficiency of nutrient utilisation, soil fertility, crop quality, animal health, animal performance and financial margins. Linked to six commercial organic dairy farms.
Ty Gwyn farm with 74 ha converted to organic production, herd of 90 Holstein-Friesian cows and 40 young stock, fully equipped dairy unit, all managed to Soil Association standards, with a wide range of soil types and both permanent pasture and crop rotation systems and a range of wildlife habitats suitable for environmental studies
