Summary
Greater use of plant genetic resources in organic farming requires more on-farm characterization, local multiplication and better descriptions of agronomic, functional and quality traits. Participatory approaches involving farmers can help identify and develop locally adapted materials, including Organic Heterogeneous Material and organic varieties. Effective data management, knowledge sharing and training on evaluation methods and digital tools are also important for moving genetic resources beyond conservation and into practical cultivation and breeding.
