Summary

This plant genetic card presents information on the traditional Spanish carrot (Daucus carota) landrace ‘Morada de Villena’, originating from Villena (Alicante, southeastern Spain). The landrace has been cultivated in the area for more than one century and remains appreciated for its sweet flavour, juicy texture and characteristic purple colour. The card documents its history, general and technical characteristics, cultivation practices and traditional and emerging culinary uses, supporting the conservation and continued use of this locally adapted carrot genetic resource. The plant genetic card was provided in Spanish and English by UPV as part of the Horizon Europe LiveSeeding project.
