Summary
This study evaluates a circular winter feeding strategy for organic growing-finishing pigs, substituting imported soy and traditional silage with locally biorefined green protein concentrate and ensiled pulp
. Results from a trial with 120 pigs demonstrate that these grass-based alternatives maintain equivalent growth performance (final slaughter weight ~103 kg) while significantly improving nitrogen utilization efficiency (lower plasma urea, P=0.011)
. The integration of biorefined pulp as a functional roughage successfully fulfills welfare requirements while closing the circularity of the biorefinery
. These findings validate a sustainable, year-round local feeding model that reduces the environmental footprint of organic pork production
