Summary

Across 213 European broiler, dairy, and beef farms, intensification increased protein efficiency and land productivity, with broiler systems generally outperforming ruminants. However, when considering only human‑edible feed inputs, dairy systems were more efficient than broilers—especially in extensive, low‑input systems that require no human‑edible protein.
