Summary
Outdoor access in organic laying hen systems increases the risk of ascarid worm infestation, but vinegar added to drinking water did not reduce parasite egg counts nor improve hen welfare or bone strength. Instead, factors such as outdoor area substrate, litter type, and litter‑change frequency had clearer impacts on infestation levels and welfare. The study confirms that regular faecal egg counts and targeted anthelmintic treatments remain essential for effective parasite management in organic flocks.
