Summary

You will learn about current pesticide use ans weed control strategies in maize silage production, get an expert view on reducing herbicide reliance and get to know three proposed intervention strategies:
1) Substitution of synthetic herbicides,
2) Mechanical weeding for replacing herbicide use, and
3) Wider crop rotations.
The factsheet is aimed at farmers in transition to organic agriculture.

EPrint Type:Practice tool
Teaser:Farm-level impacts of pesticide reduction strategies in Slovenia.
What problem does the tool address?:Synthetic pesticides are currently relied upon across the world. Their use can have negative impacts on human and
environmental health. This makes it important to explore ways of reducing their use, including through identifying novel strategies for controlling pests and diseases.
Some of the SPRINT Projects case study sites were selected for a deep analysis into farm-level economic impacts of agronomic interventions for reducing synthetic pesticide reliance.
What solution does the tool offer?:This factsheet provides country-specific pesticide reduction strategies for Slovenia, based on expert interviews and analysis of current herbicide costs.
