Summary
Summary translation
More than ever, livestock farmers are having to cope with rising raw material prices. Under these conditions, feeding ruminants on grass is bound to become increasingly important, given the low cost of producing this feed. Grazing produces interesting results if the animals have access to a continuous supply of quality grass in sufficient quantity. This is where sheep can help, as their grazing behaviour complements that of cattle. Sheep generally graze lower and, given the smaller bite size, have a greater ability to select their ration than cattle. Playing on the complementarity between sheep and cattle would therefore help to maintain the quality of the grassland at its optimum.
