La sélection porcine se concentre majoritairement sur d’autres performances que celles recherchées dans l’élevage extensif. Il existe des races plus anciennes, qui se distinguent par leur robustesse et dont la viande convient bien pour la vente directe. C’est pourquoi le projet FiBL « Notre porc domestique » soutient la sélection de races porcines alternatives.
