EPrint Type:Practice tool
Teaser:About the future of dual-purpose cattle.
What problem does the tool address?:In the Swiss alps, as breeding progressed, more dairy cow types were increasingly bred, while dual-purpose breeds fell behind. With this development, secondary performance traits such as fertility, health and longevity were considered less important. The lower meat yield also reduced body reserves, which were useful in poor forage conditions, for example in summering areas.
What solution does the tool offer?:The Swiss partners of the two CORE Organic projects “2-Org-Cows” and “OrganicDairyHealth” recently presented their findings to representatives of breeding organizations and farmers.
