Teaser: | Climate-smart agroforestry. |
What problem does the tool address?: | Agroforestry systems combine woody plants and agricultural crops on the same area. This combination offers numerous ecosystem services, such as improved soil fertility, water storage and erosion control. At the same time, woody plants remove C02 from the atmosphere, making them one of the most important carbon sinks in agriculture. |
What solution does the tool offer?: | In this video, organic farmer Meinrad Betschart and his son Ramon give a tour of their 2-hectare agroforestry system with 50 standard fruit trees, 20 species of timber, hedges and willows. Advisor Mareike Jäger also presents different agroforestry approaches and their advantages as well as the Silvocultura support programme (https://www.silvocultura.ch/programm). |
