Summary in the original language of the document

In the video, Valentin Blattner explains the different resistance mechanisms and their influence on the health of the vines. He explains how fungus-resistant grape varieties (PIWIs) can defend themselves against diseases.

Summary translation

Im Video erklärt Valentin Blattner die verschiedenen Resistenzmechanismen und deren Einfluss auf die Gesundheit der Reben. Er erklärt, wie sich pilzresistente Rebsorten (PIWI) gegen Krankheiten wehren können.

Teaser:The selection of new fungus-resistant grape varieties.
What problem does the tool address?:Mildew fungi are one of the most dangerous vine diseases. Under favourable conditions, the course of the disease can reach epidemic proportions. Due to the infestation of flowers and grapes, there can be significant losses in yield
lead to total harvest failure.
What solution does the tool offer?:Innovative breeding methods were developed by the Swiss grape breeder Valentin Blattner. Every year he breeds thousands of new fungus-resistant grape varieties (PIWIs) that are specifically resistant to diseases such as powdery mildew (Oidium) and downy mildew (Peronospora). Valentin Blattner lets these new varieties grow in a test field without any plant protection in order to test their resistance. In autumn it becomes clear which plants have the necessary resistance genes and remain healthy, while others without these genes die.
