EAS talk is a series of webinars that are coordinated and moderated by the EAS secretariat.
The series aims to present a wide range of subjects that reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of EAS and the aquaculture community in general. Teaser:Organic aquaculture in Greece, its development, constraints, regulations, management and more.
What problem does the tool address?:With the European Green Deal, the Farm-to-Fork Strategy and the Biodiversity Strategy, the EU has set targets of reaching at least 25% of the EU’s agricultural land under organic farming by 2030 and significantly increasing organic aquaculture.
However, organic aquaculture ecosystem will require further knowledge on primary production, markets and innovation. Which are the main drivers and bottlenecks? By helping to achieve the EU targets we need to support the sustainable, productive, climate-resilient, healthy organic aquaculture farming system to provide consumers with affordable, safe, traceable food while minimising pressure on the aquatic ecosystem and restoring and enhancing biodiversity.
What solution does the tool offer?:The overall objective of FutureEUAqua is to effectively promote the sustainable growth of climate-change resilient, environmentally-friendly organic and conventional aquaculture of major fish species and low trophic level organisms in Europe, to meet future challenges with respect to the growing consumer demand for high quality, nutritious and responsibly produced food.
