Summary translation
Since 1 January 2012, organic piglets can no longer be castrated without anaesthetic and/or analgesia. The derogation in Organic Regulation EC/889/2008, Art. 95, paragraph 4 has been lifted. Alternatives to live surgical castration were examined during a consultation of operators in the Belgian organic pig sector.
