Summary
L’agriculture biologique (AB) est en développement en région wallonne, avec pour ambition politique d’atteindre 30 % de la surface agricole en AB à l’horizon 2030. Dans le cadre du projet MicroSoilSystem, nous avons interviewés des agriculteurs bio afin de mieux comprendre les tenants et aboutissants de la conversion et de la gestion d’une ferme en AB. Les discussions ont porté sur les raisons qui les ont poussés à passer au bio, ce qui les a aidés ou au contraire freinés dans leur démarche, et les principaux enjeux et contraintes qu’impliquent la gestion d’une exploitation en AB. Dans le prochain numéro d'Itinéraires BIO, nous analyserons également le rapport de ces agriculteurs au sol : quels sont les éléments les plus importants pour préserver ou améliorer les sols ? Quels indices observer pour savoir si le sol fonctionne bien ? Le passage à l’AB a-t-il eu des implications sur la qualité des terres ?
Summary translation
Organic agriculture (OA) is developing in the Walloon region, with the political ambition to reach 30% of the agricultural surface in OA by 2030. As part of the MicroSoilSystem project, we interviewed organic farmers to better understand the ins and outs of converting and managing an organic farm. The discussions focused on the reasons that pushed them to go organic, what helped or hindered them in their approach, and the main challenges and constraints involved in managing an organic farm. In the next issue of Itinéraires BIO, we will also analyze the relationship of these farmers to the soil: what are the most important elements to preserve or improve the soil? What indicators should be observed to know if the soil is working well? Has the switch to AB had implications for the quality of the land?
