Depuis 2017, le CRA-W est en réflexion sur la mise en place de plateformes expérimentales destinées à l'étude des systèmes de cultures. Trois secteurs ont été identifiés: les grandes cultures conventionnelles, les grandes cultures bio et le maraîchage bio. La plateforme dédiée aux grandes cultures bio, dont les premiers semis ont été réalisés en automne 2018, est la première à avoir été installée. Cette plateforme expérimentale se situe à Gembloux au sein du domaine du Centre wallon de Recherches agronomiques sur une parcelle dont la conversion à l'agriculture biologique a débuté en 2018.
