Summary in the original language of the document
The Guyot training system for apples is also tested under organic cultivation conditions and compared with the classic spindle training system. The Guyot training system for apples has been used in practice in South Tyrol for several years. As with the Guyot system of the vines, the main axis is guided horizontally and the side shoots are pulled vertically upwards. This creates a slender foliage and fruit wall with ideal sunshine for all fruits. This training system also offers ideal conditions for mechanization of the cut and, in the future, possibly also of the harvest.
Summary translation

Teaser: | Solutions for protection of organic fruit crops. |
What problem does the tool address?: | Use of pesticides and exposure to weather in organic fruit growing can be a challenge for organic farmers. |
What solution does the tool offer?: | Depending on the weather, frequent treatments with pesticides are also necessary for organic fruit cultivation. In order to reduce the economic burden, FiBL has set up a test facility. Among other things, constructions with flexible roofs are tested here. Intelligent coverage, controlled by sensors and IT solutions, should completely avoid the use of crop protection against diseases. The first results show that the construction is technically feasible, that the prototype has good storm resistance and that the electronic control via sensors and weather forecasts works. However, a sticking point for further development is the cost of construction. |
