Summary

Summary translation

The development of organic production is growing significantly since 2009 (new European regulation). Most organic livestock (eggs, milk, etc ...) grow out of the niche market with volumes of production becoming significant. Organic rabbit husbandry does not know this development because of the technical difficulties caused by a very different management of production in organic rabbit systems and the lacks of technical and economic references. The Casdar Lapin Bio project objectives were to make an inventory of this production, identify technical brakes, make some scientific trials to improve the management of parasitism and feeding but also suggest research priorities to develop scientific knowledge and the production. Working on technical-economic references made it possible to highlight large differences between organic rabbit units (housing and number of rabbits) and the conventional ones, a large variability of technical and economic performance (because of the very low number of farms) and the requirement to develop a specific tool for technical and economic management. The results of INRA trials show the potential of enhancing fodder in the diet of rabbits or to give cider vinegar in drinking water to reduce the risk of acute parasitic infections. This work requires refining to provide concrete answers to the questions of producers (concerning grazing management, control of parasitism) and assisting them in developing this production.
