Summary
Summary translation
A number of plant species have been tested as undersown catch crops in spring cereals. The aim was to find alternatives to grasses as undersown catch crops, we looked especially for crops with deeper rooting. We identified a number of promising species, including chicory, sorrel and dyers woad, which all had rooting depths of 2 meters or more. Dyers woad seems to be the most promising with very deep rooting and fast N release for the succeeding crop. Rooting depth of ryegrass and white clover were both limited to the upper 1 meter of the soil.
