Occupation
In 1996 ESK became the leader of Danish Research Centre for Organic Farming (DARCOF). DARCOF was initiated in 1996 with the main objective to initiate and co-ordinate Danish research and development for organic farming, with a view to achieving optimum benefit from the allocated resources. Its aim is to elucidate the ideas and problems faced in organic farming through the promotion of high quality research of international standard.

DARCOF is organised as a "centre without walls", which is to say that the researchers remain in their own research environment but collaborate across institutes. Activities in DARCOF is co-ordinated by the secretariat at Research Centre Foulum, Denmark. The collaboration in DARCOF currently implicates about 150 research scientists working at 20 different institutes in 33 different research projects. The annual budget for the centre in 2002 is 8.000.000 EURO. The research is either conducted at the different institutions or at the research facilities associated to DARCOF.

ESK has in the period 1982-2002 published research results that amount to approx. 100 titles, of which 80 are published in scientific journals, 42 are published internationally. ESK has participated in 30 international congresses, half of these with invited contributions.
