Summary
Summary translation
The experiments were carried out in the Eerika test site of Rõhu experimental station of Institute of agricultural and environmental sciences, Estonian University of Life Sciences during 2012–2016. There were 5 crops in rotation: red clover, winter wheat, pea, potato and barley undrsown with red clover. There were 7 cultivation systems in the experimental setup (4 conventional systems with chemical plant protection and mineral fertilizers, 3 organic systems which included winter cover crops and farm manure). The aim of the present research was to study the effect of cultivating the barley undersown with red clover on the soil hydrolytic activity (FDA), the change in the content of organic carbon (Corg) and humus (t ha-1 ) compared to the same parameters from the field previously under potato (precrop of barley in the rotation). Our results indicated that the cultivation of barley undersown with red clover had a positive impact on the content of soil microorganisms, by increasing their hydrolytic activity. The values for soil microbial hydrolytic activity (FDA) after the cultivation of barley undersown with red clover were by 18.6% in conventional systems and 37.2% in organic systems, compared to the soil after the harvest of potato (precrop). As an average of the experimental years the content of organic carbon (Corg, %) increased by 11.6% in organic systems compared to the conventional. After the cultivation of barley undersown with red clover there were no significant changes in the content of organic carbon (Corg). Strong correlation (r=0.55) was found between the Corg content in the soil after barley and the soil hydrolytic activity. The changes in the humus content after the cultivation of barley undersown with red clover showed an increasing trend in conventional systems, while in organic systems slight decrease was measured.
